Creative Touches. Wild Roots.

I’m Sophie Ouellette — artist, adventurer, and lover of all things nature, raised in Fort Kent, Maine, the town where the legendary U.S. Route 1 begins. That “First Mile” isn’t just a place I’m from — it’s a symbol of how I live: rooted in something real, but always drawn to the winding road ahead.

The name Spruce Routes Art is a layered nod to that duality. It’s a play on spruce roots — honoring the northern forests, the French and Northern Indigenous blood in my veins, and the sacred symbolism of the spruce tree in cultures: strength, healing, and connection to the land. But instead of roots, I chose routes — not only as a tribute to my birthplace, but because my creative path, much like my life, doesn’t stay still. It travels. It explores. It grows in every direction.

Whether I’m painting faces at a festival, hiking with a sketchbook, or capturing emotion on canvas, every piece of my work carries that blend of home and horizon — grounded by where I began, and guided by the routes still unfolding.

A Collection of My Creations

Face Painting

Add a splash of color and magic to your next event with professional face painting! Perfect for parties, festivals, and community gatherings, each design is created with high-quality, skin-safe paints and tailored to your theme or guest preferences.

Murals

Transform any wall into a work of art with custom murals that bring your vision to life. Whether it’s a whimsical scene for a child’s room, a bold statement piece for a business, or a calming nature-inspired design, each mural is thoughtfully planned and hand-painted with care.

Flower Prints

Each flower print is made with real, hand-foraged botanicals that I carefully press and preserve using a wooden flower press custom-built by my grandfather for my grandmother. After her passing, I inherited this treasured piece and now use it to create prints that honor both nature and family legacy. Every design is one-of-a-kind, offering a heartfelt, earthy touch to any space.

Pet Portraits

Hand-painted pet portraits that focus on capturing the expression, personality, and quiet details that make each animal special. These pieces are created from photo references and painted with care using professional-grade materials. Whether honoring a past companion or celebrating a current one, each portrait is meant to be a timeless and personal tribute.

Custom Signs

Each sign is hand-painted without the use of hard stencils, and never made from machine-printed stickers. From welcome signs and business logos to festival cutout boards and decorative lettering, every detail is sketched and painted by hand for an authentic, one-of-a-kind look. Whether it's bold and bright or soft and rustic, the style is fully customizable to match the tone and purpose of the piece.
